WHO IS A CHRISTIAN?

In our lives, one way or the other, we've been required to fill forms which provided a column requesting for our religion. Be it a school enrolment form, a job application form, a bank account form, a visa application form or even a social network registration form. And all the time, we are quick to tick or fill in Christianity as religion.

When people inquire of us our religion, we say ''Christianity'' or ''I am a Christian.'' Most times, we don't stop to ponder on the implication or know the meaning of our answer. Some of us have just grown to know it to be so. it has become embedded in our mind. We don't think about it or hesitate when asked, we just reply ''I am a Christian.'' But do we really know who the Christian really is? Or do we just accept by default that we are Christians simply because we were born by Christian parents?

A Christian is a person who has declared and accepted Jesus Christ, Lord over his life (Romans 10:9). In other words, he is born again. A Christian has the Holy Spirit dwelling in his heart. He is the son of God, superior to the devil and the world. He is a partner and ambassador of Jesus Christ here on earth (2nd Corinthians 5:20).

Just as Jesus Christ was glorious, victorious and triumphant all the days of His life here on earth, so also is the life of Christian.
1 John 4:17 ''...because as he is, so are we in this world.''   That is who a Christian really is. You're not a Christian just by associating yourself with Christians, or because you go to Church every Sundays.

Ironically, a lot of people have declared Jesus Christ, Lord over their lives, and are born again but their lives are not as glorious as what the word of God says. Their experiences in life contradict or do not tally with the word of God. To tackle this issue, let's ponder on this scripture;

Galatians 4:1 Amp. "NOW WHAT I mean is that as long as the inheritor (heir) is a child and under age, he does not differ from a slave, although he is the master of all the estate;"

When you become a Christian, every God's word and promises concerning your life becomes a reality but to fully enjoy it, you ought to grow. Its not optional, its a must. The above scripture emphasizes that even though the heir (son) is the master of the estate, as long as he is a child, he does not differ from a slave.

When our Lord Jesus Christ walked this earth, He didn't just begin His ministry at once. He began at the age of thirty. What do you think happened before then?

Luke 2:40 KJV ''And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him.''
Luke 2:52 KJV ''And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.''

Jesus Christ had to grow, likewise we Christians, we have to be trained for us to grow in grace, faith, love, knowledge and wisdom of God.

And how does this growth process work?

Joshua 1:8 KJV ''This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.''

Glory to God! In order to fully live the Christian life here on earth, the word of God must be our standard for life.

Furthermore, as a Christian, it is necessary for the Holy Spirit to lead you in all endeavours of life, for you to be successful always. No wonder Paul said,

Romans 8:14 KJV ''For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.''

When you make the Word of God and the Holy Spirit, the guide for your life, then you are sure to live a triumphant Christian life. God bless you.
